2014 hurtles into 2015... a print/lino-cut of an illustration for Orwell's 1984. The text would read: "We are the dead." as Winston and Julia stand looking out of the window of the grubby flat onto the fly-blow and watching

city , but seeing the Golden Land and freedom ...

Circus Comes to Town.

These images are part of a picture-story. The work is inspired by 1950's circus photography. I wanted to capture the magic that comes into play when the lights dim over the audience and the performers step out into the spotlight. I also wanted to capture the tension that is created between the performer (in this case, the 'trapeze' artist) and the watchers. The pounding heart as we wait and hope the trapeze artist makes it safely back to the swing!

The artwork is two colour ( violet and black over-printed) hand-made lino-cuts with water-based printing-ink, on heavy cartridge paper.

'Memory' drawings of a wraith-like lady I caught a glimpse of recently, when passing by Princes Park, Liverpool. The elongated shape, the very stooped shoulders- she was a very striking figure. Tried to capture something of that, not my prettiest drawings alas.
